Nepali women football team qualified for the second round of the Olympic Qualifiers in its first participation in the Competition. In the last game, Nepal played 1-1 draw against Bangladesh to secure second round berth as top two third placed team.
In the match played at Thuwunna Stadium, Yangon Nepal took the lead in the 17th minute of the match when skipper Niru Thapa scored. However, in the dying moment of the game, Nepal came to concede a goal which shake Nepal’s hope of qualification, but didn’t effect much.
The other group member from same group, Myanmar and India are playing today. They both are also assured of second round as they were confirmed of first and second spot in group C.
How Does Nepal Qualify ?
There are total of four groups. The top two teams from all four groups advance to the next round. Similarly, they will be joined by two best third placed team from all those four groups. Therefore, Nepal collected total 3 points from three matches and are among the top two third placed team.
Due to groups having different number of teams after withdrawals, the results against the fourth-placed and fifth-placed teams in four-team and five-team groups are not considered for this ranking.
