New Zealand reeling after Yasir strikes thrice before lunch
Watling and Somerville walk back, a small grin exchanged between the two. The Pakistan bowlers are quite happy with themselves as well. Pakistan perhaps edged the day, but New Zealand will be happy that they avoided a collapse like in Dubai – despite a few jittery moments – and fought back to reach this stage.
Williamson's excellent 89 was a large reason for that, but Watling's marathon shouldn't be forgotten either. He's batted 180 balls for his 42, and did the important job of grinding down the Pakistan bowlers. Somerville, on his debut, ensured no further wickets fell late on.
The two will hope keep Pakistan out there on the second morning, for as long as possible.
